We have all seen one celebrity or another fall into a weight gain slump and be absolutely slammed for it, to then only bounce back less than a month later looking fit, tanned and overall amazing. So, celebrity weight loss: how do they do it? Does it cost the same amount as a small vacation to the Bahamas? Do they almost starve themselves in the process?
Let’s delve deeper and investigate what they are doing to initiate such a bounce back. It is important to keep in mind that celebrities have a lot of money and spare time. It is also worthy to remember that losing weight quickly is not always good for you and the methods involved can have a negative impact on your health.
Rapid Weight Loss
Celebrities that have been trying to lose weight quickly, either for an event or for a television or movie role have been known to do everything in their day, walking. It may seem odd, but it does make sense. Keeping the body constantly moving will keep your metabolism on high function, burning fat all the while. They even have meetings on the move, with some celebrities walking high-pace during an important consultation. The stars have also been known to sweat the weight off them, by spending hours in the sauna. On average, a mere twenty minutes in the sauna can burn up to 500 calories as the sauna can up your metabolic rate by 25%. Time in the sauna will also help to reduce any bloating, by reducing water weight.
Celebrity weight loss is not always just about the quick fix, and many are seen hitting the gym for hours or attending yoga and Pilates classes. Many celebrities are proud yoga and work-out enthusiasts and when needing to get into shape are seen working out or running in the park. Lucky for celebs, they are also able to hire a personal trainer due to their financial status. A personal trainer would make working out much easier and a lot more effective. Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid commend their personal trainers for their model-perfect bodies. If there happens to be a fluctuation in their weight, their personal trainers are the first person they would call.
Diet + Supplements
Some celebrities have admitted to using dieting supplements when they are feeling specifically overweight or have a big event coming up. They usually spend lots of money getting the highest quality supplement. The way weight-loss supplements work is that they contain a lot of fiber, making you feel really full, even when you haven’t eaten. Weight loss supplements are not particularly beneficial for people who cannot afford a nutritionist or a very high-quality product. They can also be detrimental to your health. Bad-quality weight loss supplements do not contain all of the necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs to function.
Celebrities are hailing one of the world’s most profound new weight loss trends; intermittent fasting. Many celebs use this dieting technique to lose weight quickly. Most opt for the eat-stop-eat method, where they eat nothing for 24 hours, once or twice a week.
It has been said that celebrities trying to lose weight will also take part in “apple day”. Apple day is where you eat only apples for 24 hours at least one day a week. Although a very boring diet concept, apples contain fiber, vitamin C and vitamin B-6, all essential in weight loss. The high level of fiber in apples helps you to feel full. Plus, eating only apples is guaranteed to help you lose weight.
Before big events, celebs have been known to increase their fluid intake to loss weight quickly. They do this to boost their metabolic rate, with 500ml of water boosting metabolism by 30%. They also drink 500ml of water before every meal. This helps them to not overindulge on food due to their stomach feeling full from the water. Another odd thing for celebrity weight loss is to eat a lot of almonds. Almonds contain amino acids that increase the metabolism. They are also high in carbohydrates, meaning that they fill your stomach for a long time.
Cutting down on salt-intake, or completely avoiding it all together is another celeb-certified tactic to help lose weight quickly. Salt holds water weight, which is a problem when coupled with excess fluid intake for weight loss, so essentially salt needs to be pretty much avoided all-together.
Some celebrities cut down on many foods to reach their goal weight, with one well-known celebrity (Elizabeth Hurly) only consuming watercress soup on the lead up to a big day or role. She’s been known to completely ditch solids for at least six cups of watercress soup a day. Celebrity personal trainer, Harley Pasternak, tells his clients Rhianna, Megan Fox and Kim Kardashian to focus on stepping it out before any big events. He tells them to get at least 10,000 to 12,000 steps in a day, with the goal to burn as many calories as possible within a day. He also puts them on a no-sugar and highly-limited carb diet. All of which he can monitor from his computer, meaning that his clients are under strict guidelines.
Is It Worth It?
Due to celebrity’s constant attention and constant time in the limelight, it’s not surprising the length’s they will go to. They will use almost any weight loss technique and plan to lose weight fast and will happily spend the money to get it. While some quick weight loss techniques are healthy and appropriate, others seem hardly worth it and a healthy diet and an increase in exercise will get you to where you want to be in no time. Although some methods of celebrity weight loss are worthwhile taking on, it is important to remember that everyone has a different understanding on the perfect weight and the perfect figure. You have to ask yourself, is it worth starving yourself with nothing but apples or watercress soup?
